See: Post 16 School, College, and University Stakeholder Activity for a summary engagement in this area.

I am currently briefing universities on Core Maths, and post-16 mathematics more generally, following an invitation to them from BIS/DfE to find out more about Core Maths.

This activity resulted in the support for Core Maths in the statements (also available here) which got a mention on page 43 of the Smith Review Report:

  • The Russell Group’s ‘Informed Choices’ – the Russell Group of 24 leading UK universities’ guide to making decisions about post-16 education – has publically endorsed the development; additionally, at the time of drafting this report, a total of 43 universities had shown their individual support for core maths, including 20 Russell Group universities and 23 others.

as well as on page 105 in the White Paper, namely:

  • ‘These [Core Maths qualifications] have been endorsed by a large number of universities, including many in the Russell Group.’

I supported a range of work undertaken as part of the DfE/HMT Smith Review of Post 16 Mathematics.
